Accident hotspots

Accident prone motorists should avoid driving in Adelaide’s CBD, on a Friday, between 3pm and 4pm, in a Holden Commodore.

RAA Insurance claims manager, Tony Phillips, said an analysis of accident claims in the last financial year revealed some startling information.

Most accidents happen on a Friday, with 3pm – 4pm the most popular time of the day. Almost one in five crashes (19%) happened in car parks, 14 per cent involved reversing vehicles and 10 per cent resulted from a failure to give way.

“When you look at the crash locations, it’s clear that city drivers are most prone to bingles. There’s a lot to think about when driving through busy city streets which may be unfamiliar. Many have multiple lanes and a variety of parking restrictions,” said Mr Phillips.

“It’s interesting that you’re most likely to be involved in a crash on a Friday. Drivers often drop their guard at the end of the week as they wind down for the weekend.”

Vehicles built in 2003 accounted for the most claims (7 per cent) with the Holden Commodore the most popular model (involved in 10 per cent of accident claims.)
